Do I need to inform my partner if I am HIV positive?

The law says that if you are HIV-positive and are aware of how HIV spreads, you should take reasonable steps to prevent passing it on. This could include telling your partner before sexual contact or before sharing needles. It could also include taking all reasonable precautions before engaging in sexual or drug use activity, such as condoms and clean needles.  However, this does not apply to women where telling a partner could put them in danger of violence or abandonment.
