Can I be tested for HIV without my informed consent?
No person can be tested for HIV without their informed consent.
A person can be tested for HIV regardless of their consent only in the following circumstances:
- If ordered by a court,
- For screening in licensed blood banks,
- To test body parts for research or therapy, or
- If done anonymously for surveillance or epidemiological purposes.

Informed consent means that before you agree to an HIV test, you must be properly informed about it: what the test is for, its risks and benefits, and what alternatives exist. Your consent must be given freely, without any pressure, force, or misleading information, and in a language you can understand. Nobody can trick or force you into agreeing.
